What is Art Therapy
What is Art Therapy?
- Art Therapy is a gentle, creative, and person-centred form of psychotherapy that supports self-expression, emotional awareness, regulation, insight, and growth across the lifespan.
- Sessions are self-paced and adapted to each person’s needs, interests, sensory experiences, and ways of communicating.
- Creative process can offer a supportive alternative or complement to verbal therapy, particularly when experiences feel difficult to express through words alone.
- My work is informed by trauma-aware, relational, and nervous system-informed approaches, drawing from a range of therapeutic frameworks including expressive therapies, ACT, DBT, CBT, and mindfulness-based approaches.
- Using art materials and creative exploration can help access experiences, feelings, and ways of understanding that may be difficult to express through words alone.
- No artistic skill or experience is needed.
My approach is:
- Relational
- Neuro-affirming
- Trauma-informed
- Strengths-based
